Last, I need to disconnect from playing with my applications long enough to think about what I am working on. There are seldom good reasons for changing. Second, take responsibility for why I want to change my workflow. I need to maximize those peak times so that I can make headway in my work. So, how can I prevent procrastination? First, be aware that there are times I am more productive than others. It keeps me from producing actual work, work that lasts. Procrastination is a means of mental coasting disguised as productivity. It does, however, take a lot of brain power to process the notes I’ve already taken. It doesn’t take a great deal of energy to set up a new app and plan how to use it. I will sit around and instead of doing the hard work of thinking, I will pass the time by playing with other applications. I change apps and workflows because of simple boredom. The deeper question becomes, “Why do I feel the compulsion to change in the first place?” Has Evernote ever failed me? Am I missing out on anything by not using Apple Notes? No and no. But, it will never be a suitable replacement for a third-party app like Evernote. It is not a good business decision to level up Apple Notes with other note taking apps. In contrast, if I purchase a third-party application from the App Store, Apple gets paid. These omissions ensure continued App Store sales. Apple intentionally leaves Notes without a few key features. It also occurs to me why I don’t use Apple Notes. Then, I remember that once things go in Apple Notes, there is no way to get them out again. ![]() “This will make me more productive,” I tell myself. For example, from time to time, I will export all my notes from Evernote into Apple Notes. Although this system has been effective, often I change things. As an academic and regular user of Evernote, I have created a note taking workflow that helps me create lectures, videos, and lesson plans. ![]() As a productivity enthusiast, I often find myself in a state of discontent with my current system. ![]()
